Software Update — 29 October 2026

Release: 29 October 2026

This update covers the week since the last release, and it is a week of fixes across examinations, Job Cards and patient records. Frames are priced at their own sales price again, a dependant now takes its main member's medical aid details, the tray label has been redesigned to be read off a stack of trays, and Job Tracking can be found by the patient's mobile number.

Below is a plain-language summary. Several items change how something behaves — please read Worth knowing at the end before your next busy day.

Examinations and dispensing

  • Fitting Details saves on a contact lens line — editing a measurement on a contact lens fitting line produced a "missing required fields" message that named no field, and the line could not be saved at all. The spectacle prescription link is now required only where there is no contact lens prescription, which is what the record always really needed. This was the fault reported both as a failure when adding fitting details after an invoice, and as a failure when the patient brings their own frame — one cause, two ways in.
  • A frame is priced at its own sales price, not R0.00 — frames and sunglasses carry a medical aid tariff code whose tariff price is zero on some plans, and the pricelist sync had been writing that zero onto every frame as a fixed price rule. A frame picked in Fitting Details could then come out at R0.00 on the dispensing sheet, on Preview Quote and on the invoice that went to the patient. The sync no longer prices frames at all unless you have asked it to. Please see Worth knowing.
  • A plano sphere prints as 0.00 on the Exam Report — a sphere of zero printed as an empty cell, so a plano eye read as though nothing had been recorded. It now prints 0.00, the same as the referral, job and invoice reports already did.
  • The two PD figures are captioned Distance and Near — they sat in two bare columns directly under a Seg Heights row that genuinely is right and left, and on the Exam Report they sat under printed Right and Left headings. They are not per-eye figures and never were: they are the Distance PD and the Near PD. They now carry their own Distance and Near captions on the examination screen, the Exam Report and the Job Card. Please see Worth knowing.

Job Cards

  • The tray label is redesigned to be read off a stack of trays — it was a small four-column grid that nobody could read without picking the tray up. The patient's name now runs across the top, the tray number sits large in a bordered box, and the expected date, contact number and lens type follow, with the account number and dates in a small footer. A long tray number wraps inside its box instead of squeezing the name, and printing several jobs at once gives one label per page rather than running them together.
  • Job Tracking can be searched by mobile or phone number — there was no way to find a job by the patient's number, and finding one by a long name is slow. The search now offers Mobile / Phone, and it ignores how the number is written, so 0825550101 finds a patient stored as 082 555 0101 or +27 82 555 0101, and part of a number also matches. The customer account number has moved to the top of the same list. Please see Worth knowing.
  • You can choose which lab a job goes to when more than one can supply it — where several vendors supply every product on a job, Humint used to pick one of them arbitrarily and price the job from that one. Add To Job Queue can now ask, showing what each vendor would charge, and raises one order to the vendor you pick with every line priced from them. Where no single vendor covers the whole job it offers them all, says how much of the job each covers, and prices the rest from the product's own cost rather than dropping a line or writing 0.00. This starts switched off. Please see Worth knowing.

Patient records

  • A dependant takes its main member's medical aid, plan, option and membership number — each of the several ways a dependant gets linked copied a different part of those four fields, and an import copied none of them, so a family's details drifted apart and the only way to repair one was to detach the dependant and add them back. All four now follow the main member whenever the link is made or changed, and the change passes down to that dependant's own dependants. The duplicate-number check no longer objects to a dependant carrying its own main member's number, while another family's number is still refused. Please see Worth knowing.

Invoicing and payments

  • An invoice says which goods it could not take out of stock — where a product was not set up as stock-tracked, posting the invoice quietly created no delivery for it. The sale was billed, the stock never moved, and the product then did not appear on your stock reports — so a report that looked wrong was in fact correct. Posting now names every such product in a note on the invoice, instead of saying nothing. Please see Worth knowing.

Stock and stocktake

  • A stock scan batch name keeps its date — the batch name is offered to you already starting with the date, and staff were clearing the date and typing only the shelf or drawer label, so the same name came back in the next stocktake and the two clashed. The date now sits as fixed text and you type the shelf label after it. A batch with nothing typed after the date will not take scan lines, and the duplicate-name warning is now checked within the practice whose stocktake you are entering. Please see Worth knowing.

Medical aid claims

  • A credit note can no longer be submitted as a claim — a credit note raised from a medical aid invoice inherited that invoice's Medical Aid payment term, so Submit Claim and Benefit Check appeared on it, and credit notes were being sent to medical aids by mistake. Both are now hidden on a credit note and refused if something tries to send one anyway. A claim is still undone with Reverse Claim on the original invoice.

Your Humint account

  • The account notice is gentler and can be set aside — where your Humint account is due or overdue, the notice across the top of the screen now says so in plainer, less insistent wording and asks you to let your manager know. It carries an "I paid, please re-check" link, and it can be dismissed for the rest of your login session rather than following you around all day.

Enterprise Edition Only

  • Reset to Draft works again — staff who hold the Reset to Draft permission could not reset a reviewed invoice, credit note or journal entry at all, which left accountant-posted documents stuck. They can again. Accountant review permissions and the staff-verification requirement on posting are unchanged, and nothing a cashier posts is reviewed automatically.
  • The account notice no longer blanks the screen — on 23 October the new account notice left the whole Humint screen blank on Enterprise systems. It was removed from the affected practices the same day to restore service, and it returns with this update, working. We are sorry for the disruption.

Worth knowing

  • The two PD figures on a printed Exam Report were never right and left. Any copy printed before this update shows them under Right and Left headings; they are the Distance PD and the Near PD, and they are now captioned that way. The genuinely per-eye figures are the Mono row, which was always correct. Nothing about the measurements themselves has changed — only what they are called. It matters if you have been reading those two figures as the two eyes.
  • Frame prices on your pricelists will change. The fixed R0.00 rules — and, on some discounted plans, tariff-priced rules — that an earlier sync wrote onto frames and sunglasses are removed, so frames now sell at their own sales price. Only the rules the sync itself made are removed; a frame discount you set up by hand is kept. If your practice does want frames priced from the tariff, switch on Include Frames SAOA in Settings and the rules come back. Please check one frame on a dispensing sheet and on a quote after the update.
  • Dependants' medical aid details will be brought into line with their main member. We run that repair once per practice, by hand, and it will replace a membership number that was edited on a dependant on its own. If a dependant in your practice deliberately carries a different membership number from their main member, please tell us before we run it. The rule from here on is that a dependant always matches its main member, including where that is Private Patient or blank.
  • On Job Tracking and Clinical → Jobs, typing and pressing Enter now searches the customer account number, not the job name, because the account number has moved to the top of the search list. To search by name, pick "Search Task for…" or "Search Patient for…" from the list instead of pressing Enter. The Project app's own task search is unchanged.
  • Choosing the lab for a job starts switched off. Until a practice asks for it, Add To Job Queue behaves exactly as it does today. It never asks where jobs are queued automatically — only on the Add To Job Queue button you press yourself.
  • Stock scan batch names can no longer be shortened to just the shelf label. The date stays on the front of every new batch name. Existing batch names are untouched.
  • Invoices will begin carrying a note about goods that could not be taken out of stock. The invoice still posts — we chose a note rather than a refusal, because refusing would have blocked a large share of real invoices on the affected systems. If you see that note often, the products it names need to be set up as stock-tracked, and your stock reports have been under-reporting them until now.

If anything here does not behave as described on your system, please log it with us in the usual way.
